The Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit is one of the popular palettes out there for contouring and for good reason. It just has everything you would need to achieve that perfect contour.
The palette is made of cardboard which is disappointing coming from a high-end brand because it can easily get damaged. It also does not come with the mirror which was a unfortunate surprise. The palette contains six shades-three in the top row and three in the bottom row.
The top row shades consist of: Vanilla, Banana and Sand (L-R)
The bottom row shades consist of: Java, Fawn and Havana (L-R)
All of the shades are matte except for the Sand which is a really pretty champagne highlight. It has no visible chunks of glitter and is finely milled. Banana is a self-explanatory yellow shade and Vanilla is a cream colored shade used for highlighting and adding light to selected part of the face.
The bottom row has Fawn which is standard neutral contour shade, and two warm shades Java and Havana which could be used as bronzers to add some warmth to the skin.
This is a really great palette to have in your collection if you are into the whole contoured look or if you are a makeup fiend like myself. For girls who can’t be bothered with contouring, might find smaller palettes like the Smashbox contour palette more suitable. It all really depends on personal preference.
I am definitely not one of those people who are blessed with wonderful sculpted cheekbones that you see on models. That’s why I’m always on the hunt for anything that will temporarily give me those chiseled cheeks, and thus I came across the Sleek Contour Kit. Nowadays many companies are putting out their contour kits with a bronzer, a contour shade, a banana shade, a highlight shade etc. you know what I’m taking about. For beginners those kind of contour kits might seem overwhelming or if you’re not that much into contouring all that might seem excessive. The Sleek contour kit is perfect for the beginners or for someone who just needs a basic contour shade and highlight shade. Sleek Contour Kit comes in three shades: a light, medium and dark. I picked up the medium one since I am NC 35, but I could have gotten away with the light one as well. The contour shade is matte, very heavily pigmented and not orange at all. What I love about this is that it is so blendable that even a beginner can easily work with this. The highlight shade is a beautiful golden highlight. It is gorgeous. It’s pigmented, not filled with obvious glitter. It’s a very subtle highlight which I love and one that won’t make you look like a disco ball. I recommend this to everyone who wants something basic or someone who’s a beginner and who’s trying to learn how to do a basic contour.
Sleek Makeup Products are available in Jeddah at Whites (Haifa Mall). The Contour Kit is for 49 SR.
I’ve been wearing my MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation as an everyday base, but I’ve been finding it too heavy for going to classes or the hospital during the week. I wanted something lightweight from the drugstore and so I picked the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream.
The CC cream is runny and very lightweight. It has a light coverage, but it is buildable to medium coverage. It cancels out all the redness on my skin and gives me a bright and dewy finish perfect for when my skin is not looking it’s best. The most important thing about this base is that it does NOT break me out because my skin is so sensitive and everything breaks me out. Although the formula is pretty wet, you still need to put on a moisturizer before applying this because it does cling to the dry patches on the face which is not pretty (been there, done that…unfortunately!). I have an oily T-zone so I do have to powder my skin after this otherwise the oil seeps up onto the surface. The only negative about this is the packaging. It comes in a squeezy tube with a screw lid, and I find that it can get really messy and much prefer it if it came with a pump. However, I really love this product so I’m willing to overlook the packaging. For shade reference, I am NC 35 at MAC and shade 33 suits me perfectly well.
You can get this at Whites and City Plaza for about 68 SR.
If you see my makeup collection, you’re going to find a variety of blushes that are all different shades of pink, so when I first got this blush, I didn’t know how I felt about it. I’m the type of girl who always wears pink blush leaving this blush, Lovejoy by MAC unused. One day, I discovered Mimi Ikonn on YouTube and I fell in love with her makeup. She typically wears the same type of makeup in every single video. On her cheeks, she has this bronzy glowy blush or bronzer which I just instantly fell in love with and I immediately opened my makeup collection to find something similar, and that’s when I figured that Lovejoy would be perfect to imitate Mimi’s look.
Lovejoy is so hard to describe because it’s one of those blushes that has a mix of colors. It it is bronze but it does have some pink in it, some red undertones and golden glitter running through it which is really pretty as a blush but it also gives some definition to the cheeks which I could use. The golden glitter surprisingly is not chunky so I don’t mind it on the face. It compliments olive and tan skin tones very well, but it can work for lighter skin tones if used very lightly because it is dark. I’ve been loving this blush so much and I can’t get enough of it! If you’re wondering where to find MAC stores here in Jeddah, there is one on Tahlia Street.
Concealers are just one of those products that could make you look like “Help, I need coffee, STAT!” to “I woke up like this”. It is a necessity in all makeup bags because it just helps you look a little more alive during the day. Two of my favorite inexpensive concealers are the Maybelline Fit Me and the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Eye Cream (too long of a name isn’t it?). Both of them are quite similar in terms of coverage in that both of them have a very light coverage so they won’t be able to cover some hardcore dark circles. However, because they both have a light formula, they are so easy to blend you don’t even need a brush, fingertips are enough. Both of them are one of those slap-it-on-and-get-on-with-your-day kind of product. It is perfect for the everyday natural look which I am a huge fan of and that’s why I love them both so much. The light formula of this is just perfect for the hot and sweaty weather that we have here in Jeddah because very heavy products can be just too much in this weather. The only problem with this product is it does crease in the lines under the eyes, but a swipe of powder can just solve that problem so it’s not that much of an issue. I love both of these concealers and it’s perfect for those of you who want a lightweight formula with a light coverage.
There are tons and tons of lipstick shades to chose from, all the way from nudes, your lips but better, and the ones that are like “Hello, look at me and my beautiful bold lips”. I think, as woman we all agree that the more lipsticks, the merrier. However, there are two lipsticks that every woman should have in her makeup bag: the nude and the bold. My favorite holy grail nude lipstick is the NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Bangkok. Bangkok is this warm toned pink-y nude that just blew me away. I want to buy like a few backups just in case one day, it suddenly gets discontinued. It’s perfect to pair with a smokey eye, it will take you through work, through lunches, or it’s perfect for a girls day out. On the opposite end of the spectrum is MAC’s Rebel. Now this one is a cult favorite for a reason. It is this gorgeous purple-y bold lip color that looks good on everyone. Bold lips are the perfect way to seem “put together” when you’re really not in the mood to look presentable but have to anyway (you know what I mean?) Also, this one is great for those down days, I don’t know what it is about bold lips that just makes you feel instantly better, right ladies?
I’ve always passed by the pink and girly Bassam Fattouh counter at Debenhams wondering if I should try something or not, but never made the effort. This time around, I gave in, and bought the matte lipstick in Starlet. Starlet is a beautiful berry color, one of those colors that just looks great on all skin tones. Matte formulas are one of those make- it – or- break- it kind of formulas, either they’re too dry and drag when you apply it on the lips, or they could be wonderfully creamy and moisturizing. Starlet is definitely the latter. It is matte formula, but it is creamy and very light on the lips. It is very pigmented, all you need is one swipe and you are ready for the day…or night. I just might visit their counter again and see what other good products I can find.
I’m a big fan of The Body Shop and there are certain products that I keep purchasing again and again and again. One of my favorites is the Body Butter Duo in the vanilla scent. This is probably not a surprise because everyone loves the body butters, and for good reason. There is rich cream side for extra hydration which is perfect for knees and elbows and a lighter cream for areas that don’t need a lot of hydration. The formula doesn’t leave you sticky and sinks in quickly so you don’t have to wait a while before putting your clothes on.
My next favorite is the Body Mist in Vanilla. There is really not much to say about this, except that it smells like pure vanilla. If you love vanilla, you will want this in your life. It is mist so it is light and stays on for quite some time.
The Shimmer Cube Palette has 4 different shades which you could use individually or together to create an eye look. What I love about this is that if you want to take only one shade with you, you can just take it out of the box and it has a separate lid so you can just throw it in your makeup bag. The formula is so pigmented and creamy, not chalky at all.
The lip liners are the perfect balance between creamy yet dry-am I making any sense? Basically, the formula is perfect and doesn’t slip and slide off the lips. My favorite shade is called Mauve which is like my lips but better shade. Sometimes I wear it alone, with lip gloss on top or under a lipstick.
Last, but not least, is the lip and cheek stain in Rose Pink. It gives that perfect glow on the cheeks, that color that you get when that cold winter air hits your face. On the lips it gives you a perfect pink color, and if you layer it, it gives you pink-red color perfect for fall and it does not budge, it will stay on your lips for a long time.
The Body Shop also has a Facebook Page where it uploads all it’s promotions and new launches so you can always be up to date.
The quest for finding an amazing mascara is never ending, but mine just might have ended because I may have found the one. I’ve never heard anyone talk about MAC mascaras, but the MAC Haute and Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara is perfection and deserves a spotlight. The formula is pretty wet which was enough to convince me that this one would not be for me since I’m more of dry-mascara-gal, but this has changed my mind. The fiber brush wand really gives a lot of volume, length, it separates the lashes and manages to a hold a curl for an impressive amount of time. The black color of this mascara is intense, it is really really black and it just makes your eyes stand out and makes you look more awake and wide-eyed, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love that look?
The changing season calls for changing our makeup routine and adding a few new bits and pieces to welcome the coming autumnal months. Here are few of my lip choices this fall.
1. Bassam Fattouh-Starlet: Startlet is a raspberry pink color, perfect when you want autumnal lips but don’t want to go too dark. The formula of this lipstick is like no other, its matte but so creamy and lightweight.
2. NARS Satin Lip Pencil-Hyde Park: This gorgeous formula is perfect when you want glossy lips. It is a pretty dark raspberry pink color which is flattering on a lot of skin tones.
3. Revlon Lip Butter-Berry Smoothie: This is another glossy lip option and you don’t need to look in the mirror to apply it-perfect for when you’re always on the go and simply do not have the time to fuss with lip liners and what not.
4. The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain-01: If you love match-y match-y makeup, this is something you should keep an eye out for. You can apply this berry hued stain on the lips and cheeks and be ready to head out the door. What I love about this, is that you can choose the intensity of the color. You can layer this on the lips for a dark intense berry lip or apply a light layer on the lips, it is really up to your mood.
5. MAC-Rebel: This satin lipstick is currently my newest obsession. I’ve been wearing this all the time-sometimes dabbed onto to the lips like a stain or straight from the bullet for a full on dark, bold lip. It is a beautiful dark pink-purple color, and should be a staple in every girls collection.
6. MAC-Viva Glam III: This color is definitely on the bold and daring side. It is a matte, reddish brown color that screams autumn. It is one of those universal colors that would flatter a lot of skin tones.
